The next few months will be busy as many projects are set to take place. Renovations in the Lidle Supermarket continue and the realization of a food store once again in Pompton Lakes is near. A contract for the Pond Hole Parking Lot Renovation project has been awarded and work is slated to begin in early June. Currently, the utility companies are in the process of relocating poles and service. During the renovations, portions of the parking lot will be closed to thru traffic for a period of time. Redevelopment continues as the process of demolishing existing buildings will take place for the Meridia project along Wanaque Avenue. This project will include apartments, restaurants/eateries and shops as Redevelopment expands through the Borough.
I am pleased to report Pompton Lakes has approximately a sixty percent vaccination rate for adults eighteen years of age and older. As of this time, anyone who is 12 years of age or older is eligible for the vaccination. Vaccine appointments as well as walk-ins are available in New Jersey throughout various vaccination sites.
With the State slowly opening up and restrictions lifted I am pleased to announce some town activities have resumed; Memorial Day Parade was scheduled for Sunday, May 30, 2021. Other upcoming activities include Summer Day Camp, Concerts on the Library Lawn will kick off the series with the 3M Band and the Town Wide Garage Sale and Pompton Day in September.
As we settle into summer, I would urge both children and adults to wear helmets while bicycling. As an incentive, children who are spotted by the police wearing their helmets while riding their bicycle will receive a coupon for free ice cream from participating establishments in town; Ice Cream Station and Wendy’s. We thank both business for their many years of participation and continued support.
The weather is warmer and the use of the lake becomes very popular for those who enjoy activities such as fishing, kayaking and using paddleboats. The floating dock that sits over Pompton Lake near Lakeside Park has been installed and ready for residents to experience. I would like to remind everyone jet skies are prohibited and create an unsafe and hazardous environment on our lake and enforcement will take place.
And one final reminder, please be sure to cross in the cross walks as well when driving yielding to those in the crosswalks. Be safe and enjoy the summer weather!
