As of Wednesday, January 13th, we have 41 new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Pompton Lakes. This is slightly less than our new case count has been over the last couple of weeks.
Passaic County started administering the vaccine to front line hospital workers (the 1a group of phase 1) and first responders (part of the 1b group). I am proud to say that most of our police, fire, and first aid squad have received the first dose of the vaccine. The 1c group, consisting of other essential workers and teachers, is next up. Please see the chart attached for more details.
It may take a couple of months to get through those groups, but we're making progress. Every day more sites are opening up as vaccine centers. Our own health department has a vaccine center with Wayne.
Each week moving forward more vaccines will become available in the state and county. In the meantime, thank you to all of our residents for continuing to wear masks and social distance.
If you haven't already, I encourage you to take advantage of the free at home saliva test kit. It is sent by mail and is good for six months from the date you receive it. Visit the Passaic County website for more information.
Please remember that if you suspect you were exposed to COVID-19, it is recommended that you wait at least 4 days before getting tested. You should also quarantine until you get your results.
All Pompton Lakes schools are closed and students are being taught virtually until January 19th.
We continue to mourn the loss of the twelve residents who passed due to virus complications. Our hearts are with their loved ones.
We are getting closer to mass vaccination. Hang in there. Brighter days are ahead.
