As Spring approaches there are some upcoming annual events I want to share with you.
Pompton Lakes High School students will once again participate in the annual CTO (Change of Town Officers program) scheduled for March 23, 2020. Students will meet with their Council counterparts to discuss their assigned activities prior to the Regular Council Meeting on March 11, 2020. The students will then take on the positon of their counterpart and assume their official duties along with the students who take on the role of the Administrator and Municipal Clerk to plan an Agenda with topics of their own choice to run a Mock Council Meeting. The CTO meeting begins at 7:00pm in the Municipal Council Chambers and I would encourage residents to attend, as the students are creative and resourceful and provide what they perceive to be of importance.
Once a year, the OEM (Office of Emergency Management) Coordinator, Al Evangelista presents an Emergency Awareness Seminar. The program will take place on March 18th at 7:00pm in the Municipal Chambers and residents should take advantage of the vital information offered during the presentation. Each year, Mr. Evangelista offers topics that assists with the planning and preparation for a disaster; flooding, weather related power outages, shelter information, developing an evacuation plan etc.
The Governing Body is pleased to participate in the League of Municipalities Celebration of NJ Local Government Week scheduled for April 19 thru 25, 2020. Local Government promotes services to enhance the quality of life for residents and the League program encourages citizens to support those activities within the Borough of Pompton Lakes. As part of the celebration, I have initiated a Mayor’s Book Club and have appointed a Mayor’s alternate to promote the “One Book, One Town” as an activity during NJ Local Government Week. The book selection for the “One Book, One Town” will launch the week of April 19th and further details will follow through Friends of the Library and local social media.
The Borough Historic Commission continues to plan activities for the Borough’s 125th Anniversary Celebration in conjunction with the Celebration of NJ Local Government Week. The Town will hold the official celebration on July 25, 2020 at Hershfield Park and the Historic Commission has secured a generous donation from Tilcon for sponsorship supporting the activities during the celebration. The Passaic County Freeholders have planned to commemorate and recognize the Anniversary during the Freeholders Meeting scheduled to be held in Pompton Lakes on April 28, 2020. The Historic Commission continues to work with the Passaic County Office of Cultural and Historic Affairs and the Friends of the Pompton Lakes Library to coordinate a series of promotional activities leading up to the event. Additional information to follow for the day’s events.
This is an exciting year for the Borough of Pompton Lakes. Please continue to watch for updates as we approach the 125th year celebration of our wonderful town.
