Pompton Lakes, as the name implies is an extraordinary waterway community. Our active residents embrace and enjoy the outdoors. Bordering the eastern edge of the borough is Pompton Lake, with its beautifully redeveloped shoreline along Lakeside Avenue. Its edges continue with lush, wooded lakefront properties and parkland. 175 acres of water are accessible for boating and fishing, and the lake even boasts the New Jersey state record for Black Crappie and Northern Pike. Our waterway community doesn’t end there as we have Twin Lake on the northwest portion of the Borough, also bordered by lakefront homes. In addition, we have three active rivers running throughout the borough, all with public access.
If being a waterway community isn’t enough, Pompton Lakes has a charming and convenient downtown that offers a wide variety of dining experiences, as well as rich arts and culture including live theater and many quaint shops. As the center hub of our borough, our main street allows for an engaging meeting place, accessible for residents even by bicycle or by foot.
Although our 3.2 square mile footprint may be considered small in size, our 11,000 residents are quite large in spirit, and our public school system offers top-notch education for our children. As a matter of fact, Niche.com recently rated our school district with an overall grade of A, and as the 8th safest in the state, with the 5th best teachers out of 378 districts in New Jersey and number one in best school district in Passaic County. The public school graduation rate is 95% with an average SAT score of 1210. The school district’s athletic program features male and female varsity sports teams with a winning tradition. The athletic program has earned league titles, state, regional and county championships. It’s no wonder multiple generations of residents remain or return here to raise their families.
Pompton Lakes is a quiet residential community, but is still close to major highways. NJ Transit buses run from our downtown to New York City and to nearby transit centers for convenient commuting.
