Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update 5/22/2020

COVID-19 UPDATE SQUARE GRAPHIC

From the Office of Mayor Michael Serra~

As of Friday, May 22nd, we have two hundred eighteen confirmed cases of the virus in Pompton Lakes. A very small increase from our last report six days ago. The good news for us and the state is that hospitalizations are down to the lowest levels in over a month.

We continue to mourn the loss of the six residents who passed due to virus complications. Our hearts are with their loved ones. As per our local health department, this is the most updated list of deaths in our community.

Our local testing site at William Paterson University is still open and is now accepting asymptomatic individuals. Please go to the Passaic County website for more information.

The warmer weather makes it more challenging to stay home, but I know our residents will continue to do their part to help keep numbers moving in the right direction.

The Governor announced today that outside gatherings can now have up to 25 people with 6 feet of separation and masks on. Indoor gatherings remain at 10 people.

Our tennis courts and dog park are now open and will close at dusk. All ball fields are closed. Our local hiking trail and tennis courts will stay open as long as we continue to adhere to strict social distancing guidelines. County and state parks are now open.

Schools will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. We are waiting for guidance from the state on summer camps. Unfortunately, I believe that they will not be able to open.

Nonessential businesses can reopen for curbside pickup and nonessential construction can resume. It is a start to recovery.

Garbage and recycling remains open. A big thank to all our DPW workers for all they do to keep the town running smoothly. Borough hall, the building department, and the tax department are open by appointment only. Please call first.

Happy Memorial Day. We remember and honor our heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, and we thank all veterans and active service members.

I hope you safely enjoy this weekend.
